The workflow view is separated by three areas: On the left-hand side you find the workflow library. The middle parts show all belonging protocols and corresponding laboratory instruction. On the right-hand side you can see the “General Information” of the selected workflow (see Figure 7)

5.3.1 Creating a workflow in Enhanced LaB Execution:

In order to create a workflow in Enhanced LaB Execution please:

  1. Click on the Workflows tab.
  2. Click on New Workflow +. (® The workflow editor opens.)
  3. Enter a unique name in the mandatory Title field.
  4. Select a Workflow Type.
  5. If required, fill out the remaining fields in Workflow Metadata.

Sample Range and Input Sample Type will be defined automatically by the first protocol on the canvas.

  1. Add and arrange protocols on the canvas via drag and drop.

  1. To remove a protocol from the canvas, drag it to the trash can symbol.

  1. In case of several protocols on the canvas, connect the input labwares to the output labwares.

Click on an output labware of a protocol and then click on an input labware of the following protocol to connect the labwares (Figure 8).

Figure 8: Creating an Enhanced LaB Execution Workflow by connecting labware.

The connection is established and validated automatically.

An erroneous connection cannot remain. When protocols are removed from the canvas, the connections are also removed and must be adjusted accordingly. When protocols are moved, connections may no longer be valid and need to be adjusted.

Important

If your protocol is missing a labware output, you need to go back to the protocol editor and define at least one output (see chapter 5.2.1 on page 12) by dragging and dropping the labware brick into the Outputs field. Reopen the workflow editor and replace the protocol with the updated version.

  1. Click on Save to confirm all entries.

To prevent erroneous entries, an automated workflow validation is performed. You can save workflows at any state but use only valid workflows for further processing.

The workflow is listed under the Workflows tab in the library under the corresponding workflow type.

5.3.2 Editing a workflow

To edit a workflow please:

  1. Click on the Workflows tab.
  2. Select the workflow you wish to edit from the library.
  3. Click on Edit. The workflow editor opens.
  4. Change the entries according to your wishes.
  5. Click on Save to confirm all entries.

To prevent erroneous entries, an automated workflow validation is performed. You can save workflows at any state but use only valid workflows for further processing.

The workflow is listed under the Workflows tab in the library under the corresponding workflow type.

5.3.3 Copying a workflow

  1. Click on the Workflows tab.
  2. Select the workflow you wish to copy from the library.
  3. Click on Copy. (® The workflow editor opens. The prefix Copy of will be added to the name in the Title field.)
  4. If required, change entries.
  5. Click on Save to confirm all entries.

To prevent erroneous entries, an automated workflow validation is performed. You can save workflows at any state but use only valid workflows for further processing. The workflow is listed under the Workflows tab in the library under the corresponding workflow type.

Important:

Before navigating to the eLabJournal experiment sections, for execution of Enhanced LaB Execution workflows, a valid workflow is needed.

Once in the eLabJournal experiment section the user is not able to create or modify workflows!
