Sample types can be further customized by creating Sample Type Sections, thereby grouping fields within a sample form. Navigate to Sample Types in the Configuration menu to edit the sample type and open the Settings and Sections tab in the sample type editor. Click on Add Section to define a section in the sample form.

For a section you can specify the following information:

  • Section Name - the name of the sample type section (this will used to label the fields in the section when adding a sample)
  • Section Start - the first field in the sample type section
  • Section end - the last field in the sample type section

If you select the same field as the start and end of a section, the section will only comprise the selected field. Note that sections can only include fields that are consecutively ordered in the sample type and a field cannot be part of more than one section. You can create a section only to organize the sample information sheet into multiple topics but you can also use sections to make fields conditionally visible depending on the entered sample information. For example, the fields to specify specifications for secondary antibodies are only relevant when the stored antibody is a secondary antibody type. To create a visible section with fields that documents secondary antibody specifications only, check the option make section conditionally visible.

Next you can specify the conditions, which should be met before the custom sample type fields will become visible. You can add multiple conditions and also choose to make the created section visible if only one of the set conditions is met or if all of the set conditions are met.

After adding a sample type section, you can Edit or Remove the sample type section.

In the Sample Type Editor sections are highlighted and can also be Removed or Updated. Note that if conditionally visible fields in a section are set as required, this is only validated when the visibility condition has been met.

When adding a sample with conditionally visible fields, the section will only be displayed when the visibility condition is met.
